b_200_160_4664885_00_images_castello-sirmione.jpgEven before arriving in Sirmione we can see in the distance the imposing Medieval Castle silhouetted against the sky. Strategically located in front of the only access road to the land is completely surrounded by water and is equipped with towers and crenellated walls.

This mighty fortress dating from the thirteenth century is one of the most complete and best preserved in Italy and with its dock - yet perfectly maintained - is a rare case of fortification intended to use the port.
The castle is now accessible by a drawbridge and visitors can access the tower of the keep climbing the 146 steps and from there walk on walkways.
